Boy Meets Uptown Twirl Girl

November 22, 2010

I had the pleasure of meeting Cara Gray founder of UptownTwirl.com while traveling for work in London. Cara interviewed me at this quaint brunch spot called Tom's in Notting Hill. Check out my interview here www.uptowntwirl.com. Cara is very talented and one to watch. I love her blog and love her ambition and what she is doing. Thank you for the feature. Although I was very tired that day you managed to capture me :)

Boy Meets OPRAH Girl!

November 13, 2010

Last week I got an email from Stephanie Rosenbloom, a New York Times writer with an exciting hook for her latest article: she had found me while researching her article about Oprah Winfrey's last season. As some of you might know, my email signature includes my contact information and "OPRAH!! OPRAH!!" and my Facebook accounts, Twitter feeds, and this blog all give mulitple Oprah "shout outs."

I've watched Oprah since I was a little girl. Here was this strong woman inspiring me and countless others day after day through her show. When I started my clothing line, my goal was to make it big enough to one day grace Oprah's couch back in my hometown, sweet home Chicago! Along the way I've been interviewed lots of times, received some wonderful accolades, and met many incredible people who helped push my career forward. And, of course, I've never missed an opportunity to tell my captive audience about my dreams to be on Oprah's show (For instance, check out a couple of shameless Oprah plugs HERE and HERE).

Well, Stephanie's New York Times article was released online today here and will grace the FRONT PAGE of the New York Times Sunday Styles section tomorrow! And guess who the first featured interviewee is? That's right, its little ole' me! The article is titled, "Who Will be Oprah's Last Star!" Well, I can think of one Chicagoan fashion designer with a loyal online army to nominate for that role... :)

Please spread the gospel, share the love, tell a friend over brunch, retweet, blog, and otherwise do what you can to help me achieve my "Betty White" moment. Lets get the word out folks and I promise I will thank you profusely from Oprah's couch when I finally do get on the show before the show ends in September 2011.

In the mean time, I will continue to share my journey in this crazy world of fashion that I love so much -- the highs and the lows, the ups and downs.

Oprah: Since 1986, your show has been, in large part, about shining a spotlight on culture and the issues of the day. What better way to end your run than by interviewing a relatively unknown designer who made it to your star-studded couch thanks to a healthy dose of new school and old school -- social media networking and sheer determination?

Behind the Seams with Stacy Igel

November 10, 2010
One of the recurring themes of this blog has been my roller coaster rider through the fashion industry with my brand, Boy Meets Girl®. I’ve shared with you all the exhilarating climbs as well as those moments where its all I can do to just hold on to whatever I can grasp and just put my faith in a higher power that everything will turn out okay in the end. To stick with the roller coaster theme, there’s been so many ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns.
Really, I’ve often thought you couldn’t script a better show than what happens to me in real life! So starting this week, my roller-coaster-ride-of-a-life will become a reality series on the web called, Behind the Seams with Stacy Igel®! You can check out the webisodes featured on Rate My Professors Blog next week here (link coming soon). Rate My Professors is a property of MTV networks.
Episodes 1-3 will take you behind the scenes as camera crews capture (i) Me & Boy Meets Girl®’s efforts to “go green” with a environmentally-focused office renovation, (ii) fitting models for my runway Spring 2010 fashion show at New York Fashion Week and (iii) the show itself, including backstage footage and last minute preparations.

Here you will see my old office turned into a chic cardboard city by Design Cycle/Campus-U! Cathy from Design Cylce transformed my office into all recycled cardboard and most of the pieces like the chair only took 4 steps to make..crazy huh?? She even created an adorable wish wall where you could insert your own wishes with the colored paper.

This was the day before the fashion show where we had back-to-back model fittings. It was so exiting to see the collection on the models and to see them practice their runway walk! I was so happy with the models we chose- they included winners from an Exploremodeling.com contest, 2 fashion bloggers Saucy Glossie & Late Afternoon, actress Jenn Proske, and an artist Eunice Quiones. Also special guest, Elaine Bradley the drummer for Neon Trees stopped by and I dressed her in Boy Meets Girl®. She totally rocked!

Last but certainly not least- the actual Boy Meets Girl® fashion show! This was such an rewarding experience. My team did a fantastic job and it was so amazing to see it all come together. I don’t know what my favorite part of that day was as every moment I will cherish forever: seeing Neon Trees perform live, watching my models walk down the runway, hugging my team, meeting my family and friends afterward who came to see the show and the list goes on.....

I thought a fun way to kick off the web series would be to have a contest. So here’s how its gonna work - leave a comment below your favorite webisode (Episode 1, 2 or 3) on our Vimeo page, Youtube page or here on my blog and you will automatically be entered into the contest for a chance to win a $100 gift card to the Boy Meets Girl® website!
