Behind the Seams: What I'm Thankful for This Year!

November 27, 2013
I have done several posts over the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 on this special day taking a moment and reflecting on the year and what I am grateful for. As I sit here writing this post and flipping through 1000000 of photos I find myself teary eyed (I am a woman as you know we do get emotional)!
This year has been a roller-coaster with a lot of twists and turns...I am grateful for my beautiful family, friends, team, fans and husband.
Happy Thanksgiving and Thanksgivukkah!

My Tips: Sales, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Thanksgivukkah!

November 25, 2013
It's so crazy that Chanukah falls around Thanksgiving this year(Thanksgivukkah)! This hasn't happened since 1888 and won't happen again for another 79,000 years! Friday kicks off the holiday shopping craziness so of I wanted to share with you guys my tips on how to shop Black Friday and Cyber Monday like a pro!

Bergdorf Goodman opens at 8AM on Friday 11/29/13(first time ever)! Guess who will be there?

1. Make a list of who you need to buy for!
This way you don't forget anyone!  Write everyone down you need to get something for whether it's your best friend, niece/nephew or your co-workers! Keep track of who you've bought gifts for. I like to do that via a google-doc spreadsheet, my evernote app and sometimes old school on the back of my WWD!

2. Check out the sales beforehand!
See who has the best deals on the items you need! Some people might be doing 40-50% off some might be at 70%! Some might have additional freebies! It's good to know what everyone's planning and what its going to be the hot ticket items! I made a list below of some the many great sales going both online & offline that I am excited about and some have even started today!

Boy Meets Girl®
Use CODE THANKS at checkout to get 40% off your purchase (excluding personalization)!
DATES: Nov 25 – Dec 2,  Use CODE: THANKS at check out!

Save 30% off 3 items or more, full price or sale + free ground shipping.

Bloomingdales

Receive a free mystery sample bag with any $25 purchase
DATES: November 25th

THE OUTNET
Save 20% off site wide
DATES: November 25-Nov 26(10AM EST), USE CODE: THANKSGIVING

3. Plan out what sales you want to take advantage off and where you want to go!
Now that you know who you need to buy for and what kind of sales are out there, it's time to decide what to get them! Choose places that you can buy more than one gift from! Whether its going into the store or shopping online, you'll save time and money and shipping!

4. Set your budget and stay focused!
I think it's best to set a budget for how much you're willing to spend on everyone and to try and stick to it as much as possible! For these crazy holiday sales, retailers like to throw out surprises that can detour your shopping plan, but remain strong! You got this!

Happy Shopping!

Midnight Inspirations: BrownBerry Clear Sunless Tanning Spray

November 21, 2013
photo c/o of Brownberry

Well, today its 30-something degrees and super windy in New York City.  Yes, Don Henley, the boys of summer have most certainly gone...  So what’s a melatonin-deprived girl to do?
Meet Brownberry Clear Sunless Tanning Spray! This hybrid skincare and sunless tanner is pure sunshine in a bottle.  There are other sunless tanners out there, of course, but Brownberry goes on clear.
I repeat: CLEAR. How cool right?
Also, it is formulated with Vitamin D3, which has purported antioxidant properties.
When applied topically, the antioxidant properties are smooth and soften skin while also linked to treating skin conditions like Vitiligo and Psoriasis.

So give it a shot. Because not everyone can jet off to St. Tropez for the weekend.
And I promise it will be your new healthy addiction.

*Please note all opinions are my own*

Stay tuned for some fun before and after photos and check out these how-to videos from Brownberry here. More on Brownberry New York below:

Also special promo code BMG21 for my readers to receive free shipping now until Dec.1st
use BMG21 at checkout!

Happy Birthday shout-out to founder of Brownberry, Meredith Fish! Have a Sunny Day!

My Tips: Beauty on the go! Vol. 2

November 19, 2013
I am a girl on the go and have picked up a few beauty tricks on the way to help me touch up from meeting to meeting! Enjoy :)

1. Multi purpose products!
I was recently gifted this amazing new cosmetic line "Flower" by Drew BarryMore which is sold exclusively at Walmart (thank you AB team). The Creme Eyeshadow in the color "mum's the word" , I found I could triple as eye shadow, lipstick and sometimes even blush! I am not sure if that was intended on Flower's end but for me it works! I love the size of the container and its easy for me to take on the go. Classic soft pink shades are the best for this multiple purpose use!
2.  Baby Powder
I have been using baby powder I think since the womb! Johnson's Baby Powder comes in small sizes so you can keep it in your purse and use on the go. It is perfect if you feel a little greasy at the end of the day. Baby Powder helps absorb the oils in your hair. Just sprinkle a little powder in your hair and you are good to go!

3. Keep a few of your key make up items like eyeliner and mascara at home and then in your purse/office for last minute touch ups for unexpected meetings and late night soiree's!

Midnight Inspirations: Rent the Runway at Henri Bendel

November 14, 2013

Have you ever felt you needed a new dress? (Duh… YES, of course you have…) Well, I attend a lot of events, and therefore wear a heck of a lot of dress.  Some might consider it a fashion faux pas, I have no problem getting photographed wearing the same outfits over and over.  If you like something, why shouldn't you wear it as often as possible, right?

The thing is, I found myself in my closet trying to prepare for last week’s ACE awards, without a thing to wear.  I just felt like I needed something new… something to shake it up!  So, with a gift from my friends at Rent the Runway, I decided to high-tail it over to the new Rent the Runway store in Henri Bendel.

I grew up going to Henri Bendel in Chicago at a time when they sold dresses. In fact, I’m pretty sure I bought at least one of my homecoming dresses and my prom dress from there. I even still wear an Anna Sui dress that I got there to events all the time.  To me, the New York store carries the same nostalgia as the smell of roasted chestnuts on an open fire in the middle of winter.  You can’t beat it!  So I was thrilled to head back there and see what Rent the Runway had in store for me – particularly since I had less than 24 hours to find a killer outfit.  And boy, I've got to toot my own horn for a minute, because my dress was
K-I-L-L-E-R!!  See below:

How to find a dress for a busy multi-tasker girl on the go!
1.     Friday night, I did some research on RTR.com about the type of dress I was looking for.
2.     Saturday morning, I run over to RTR @ HB at 10am to try on a few options.
(Note: I did not make an appointment prior as this was all last minute and didn't even know you could do that. But, definitely a great idea for those of you who want to try this out.)
3.     Find Rachel.  She was great.  Customer service is something I value very highly, and clearly RTR does too.  (Note: When I was 15, I worked at the Gap and received an employee of the month plaque which remains, to this day, on my childhood bedroom wall in Chicago, next to my photograph I shot of “Downtown Julie Brown").  I showed Rachel my research, we rocked and rolled, and we found my killer dress in 30 minutes flat (Note: Why did I only have 30 minutes you ask?  Because DJ Blue Steel is also a procrastinator and didn't have a tux and you better believe I wouldn't let him get one of those without me!).

Midnight Inspirations: Finding the Perfect PJs!

November 12, 2013
I have a confession to make...I have been wearing the same COW flannel PJs way too long(sorry DJ bluesteel)! I've desperately been on the hunt for a new perfect pair and haven't had much luck in the past, but now that pajamas are all the rage from day wear to night time I've found some exciting alternatives that I definitely will be wearing in the daytime too!

What do you wear to bed?

what I wore: 17th annual ACE Awards #2013aceawards

Upon arriving at the Accessories Council ACE Awards at Cipriani in midtown Manhattan, I was struck by how incredibly GRAND everything was. I hadn't been to event there in a long time.  The chandeliers were gargantuan.  The marble columns soar to the heavens, lit by a green mood lighting from every angle. It was an assault on the senses in the best possible way.  The floral arrangements were stunning, as were the Swarovski crystal touches scattered throughout the flower arrangements on the tables. It was a fitting atmosphere to host a gala honoring the larger-than-life talents in the world of accessories.

Midnight inspirations: Meet our November Muse of the Month!

November 5, 2013
Introducing our November ‘13 Muse of the Month, Alex!
I'm excited to present to you guys our November muse of the month, Alex! Love her Boy Meets Girl® style! Read more about her below!

1. Name: Alexandra Chrzan or alleighchrzan23 on YouTube

2. Favorite charity to support and why?
My favorite charity to support is the Humane Society. I am a huge animal lover and I love everything they stand for. Ever since I can remember I wanted a dog and my parents never gave in. When I was in the 4th grade they took my brother and I to the Humane Society to show us a potential adoption. That day I met my best friend and the best thing in my life. We adopted a girl puppy black Labrador and named her Decoy.  I love that the Humane Society gives animals a second chance at a loving home. I am always willing to donate every chance I get, and I am always taking supplies to my local Humane Society while I am up at school or at home.

3. Favorite Boy Meets Girl item and why?
I love the One of a Kind Crazy Heart T-shirt! It is so comfortable and you can totally dress it up or dress it down! I love layering it with a cardigan and jacket in the fall or pairing it with a leather skirt for a night out with the girls! One of the things I look for when I go shopping is items that are going to be versatile. Items that I can go from day to night in and this t-shirt is perfect with it! And of course I love the Boy Meets Girl logo formed into a heart! It gives the shirt a little extra something!

Who is your muse or the person who inspires you most? Could be anyone! If you would like to be considered for Boy Meets Girl®'s Muse of the Month see the rules here!
