Midnight Inspirations- The Mommy Edition Vol. 2

March 27, 2015

PACK IT UP PACK IN LET ME BEGIN....
Happy Friday ladies and gents. You are probably asking yourself "how does this song relate to this Mommy Edition post?" No I am not related to House of Pain (LOL) but it is one of my favorite songs from back in the day and Lauren and I have many memories singing this song together on the volleyball court in high school. Today I bring you my very dear friend and extraordinary Mommy Lauren Locke.

Lauren Locke is a wife, mom x2 (Hudson and Campbell), VP of Sales at Food52 and the founder of her incredible food blog LaurenLivingLocally. Check out her blog to learn more about eating local, adventures in cooking, farmers markets, CSAs and more.

Favorite tech item
Lauren:  Hands-down, our Sonos streaming music players.  Yes players, plural.  We wirelessly stream music from our phones and can play different music in the kitchen/living room depending on who is hanging out where. I can listen to Zac Brown Band while I cook, and the boys can play along to Mumford & Sons in the other room. My favorite feature is the ability to also stream radio programs, like Acoustic Sunrise, our favorite Sunday morning show.

Stacy:  OMG I need this ASAP. Adding to my wish list.

Favorite beauty item

Lauren: The Mia Clarisonic cleansing brush. I can feel the difference in my skin when I forget to use it. Second place, Nars Cream Eyeshadow.

Stacy: I completely agree. I have this one too and I feel like I have been to a facial after I use it. I haven't tried the Nars Cream Eyeshadow adding to list of shadows to try out. I am a big fan of Nars blush and SPF lotion

Favorite new KID accessory

Lauren: My most practical kid accessory is for middle of the night feedings--Oxo rechargeable lights.  The soft light doesn't bother the baby, they turn on by simply picking them up off the charger, and they are portable from bedside table to rocker for nursing/feeding. I also love gifting the Embroidered Hoohobbers Directors Chair. It was actually designed by the parents of a good friend of Stacy and mine's from childhood.  Toddlers love them because they can carry them around, and parents love them because they are on the go booster seats when you are traveling.
Stacy:  Laur, do you believe I have been gifting this Director Chair for a long time and this is the first time I realized it also can be used as a booster seat. BRILLIANT. You learn something new everyday:)

General advice for balancing life and work and being a mom?

My general advice... Don't beat yourself up! I've come to accept that some days I totally succeed at being a mummy, and other times I am a going to have a better day as the VP of Sales at Food52. This can be loosely translated to "always keep Sauvignon Blanc in the fridge."

Meet our March 2015 Muse of the Month!

March 17, 2015
Introducing our march ‘15 Muse of the Month, Jordan!

Today is a special day. It's March 16th and the new Boy Meets Girl® website just launched! I cannot wait to hear how you all like it (it is phase 1 of 3 phases to come). Shout out to Dj Flex for working hard on achieving a CLEAN, NEW, FRESH LOOK and Dj Midnight Manicure for helping coordinate the next phase with me and Dj Nielle Kat and Dj Who for all your hard work. Also a special shout out to good friend and incredible photographer Sophie Elgort for the brilliant photography that you will see all over the new site and the amazing Claudine De Sola founder of Caravan Stylist Studio and the extraordinary Valerie Star from Caravan Stylist Studio for mastering hair, makeup and nails on two models all by herself.  There is no I in team and I am grateful for all of you.

And now onto our March Muse...Miss Jordan Beal. When Jordan reached out to me I looked at what she was doing and jumped up for joy. I love the skating world and vined this ages ago (May 25th, 2013). Some call me clairvoyant and looks like I did foreshadow this :).

Jordan is a skater to watch. Learn more about this fearless Muse below.

2. Favorite Charity and why:
My Favorite charity is called Exposure. It’s a 501(c)(3) nonprofit women’s skateboarding benefit event dedicated to providing female skaters an avenue to succeed while at the same time raising money for survivors of domestic violence.

Skateboarding is sport and art. Skateboarding has taught me falling is not failure and given me a way to express myself. I think more girls can benefit from skateboarding (which is really a core exercise, it's like rolling yoga) if they see it's fun & fashionable. Exposure shows girls having fun skating and proves that it's not a sport just for boys. I'm thrilled to be a part of Exposure, I might not be the most technical skater but thanks to help from designs by Stacy (oh thats me thank you!) I'm out there showing girls skateboarding is fun and fashionable. I also love that Exposure gives back to the entire community by helping women balance and improve their lives.

3. Favorite Boy Meets Girl item and why?

My favorite Boy Meets Girl® item is my Pink on Pink Alice tee because I love the logo - a boy meeting a girl is exactly what I'm doing at the skate park. The first time I wore it was at Exposure 2014 and I loved how it symbolized yes I'm a girl but I'm also a skater - I can be a girl, skate, and look fashionable. I have the bow it came with on my helmet so the Boy Meets Girl is always with me when I skate.

SUNSETS

March 12, 2015
“One day," you said to me, "I saw the sunset forty-four times!"

And a little later you added:

"You know-- one loves the sunset, when one is so sad..."

"Were you so sad, then?" I asked, "on the day of the forty-four sunsets?"

But the little prince made no reply.”  _― Antoine de Saint-ExupéryThe Little Prince

Behind the Seams: Q&A with Clare Foley

March 10, 2015

I feel blessed every time I meet an artist on the rise! I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with incredible actors, musicians, athletes, writers, producers, designers, photographers and entrepreneurs. I started this BTS Q&A feature a while back to take you all inside what makes these artists tick. Being an entrepreneur myself it is fun for me to sit in a room with these artists and ask them the ins and outs of the biz. I love hearing their stories and I love sharing them with you.  Today I am taking you Behind the Seams with Clare Foley. Clare and I recently met in NYC at the Boy Meets Girl® HQ's during NYFW.

After meeting Clare for the first time I fell in love. She is 13 going on 20 but in a good way. She currently plays Ivy in the Fox show Gotham. I particularly loved hearing about her green costume that is the same for every episode (literally)! If you are a fan of GIRLS or OITNB like me then you have also seen Clare in her guest roles. Foley played the young Piper in Season 2 of "Orange Is the New Black! Clare reminded me of friends Sammi Hanratty and Peyton List both actresses that I met around Clare's age and who are doing big things today! Clare is still in school so she related to me that the hardest part of her job is finding a balance between personal life and work, however she did say her favorite part of the job is meeting new people and going to new places all the time. As we all know life is a balance and the fact that Clare is only 13 and balancing life as an actress and going to school is truly remarkable.  Clare told me one of her favorite quotes is, "I'm on a roller coaster that only goes up" Augustus Waters (played by Ansel Elgort) in the Fault in Our Stars.

Get to know more about Clare below...

I think that charity work is very important and my family and I have been involved with a charity called the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation since I was 5. I also support FreeArts NYC and the Actors Fund.
