Boy Meets FIT Girl!

October 20, 2010

Yesterday I was asked to speak to FIT's Merchandising Society. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous because I heard over 100+ students would be attending... eeeekk! My last speaking engagement was over a year ago at the Learning Annex, so I was feeling a little out of practice. But once I got there and saw all of the fashionable and stylish students I felt right at home!

I started off the panel by showing the students a sneak peak on my new web series entitled, "Behind the Seams with Stacy Igel"(you will be learning more about this collaboration with MTVU & RateMyPofessors soon). I then spoke to the students about the fashion industry generally and my experience more specifically - how I developed and have grown my brand, Boy Meets Girl® . I also showed them the Boy Meets Girl® Spring2011 Runway Show from this past New York Fashion Week (which we live streamed to my website and Twitter).

At the end of the panel there was a meet and greet with the students, and I chatted with a lot of eager fashionistas looking forward to beginning their careers. I was so honored when they came up to me and told me I was their favorite speaker and how much they loved the brand and how they were inspired by my story. This, to me, made my day. As my blog states, I am here to inspire and teach, and I felt that I was giving back and doing what I have always set out to do.

It was so great to see Brittany (now President of the Merchandising Society) , Chelsea (now Vice President of the Merchandising Society), and Alyssa (now buyer for the Style Shop) who interned for Boy Meets Girl® a couple of years ago. I can't believe how fast time flies and to see these girls as college seniors is bananas! I am so proud of each of them and how much they have already accomplished and look forward to covering them as they enter "the real world" next year.
We also checked out FIT's Style Shop with the amazing co-managers Shelby Skinner & Jacquelyn Miranda (which in the past carried Boy Meets Girl® and will be doing some collaborations with Boy Meets Girl® again soon!). The shop was adorable, full of yummy pieces: hand made jewelry, vintage jackets, handbags and lots more!
I wanted to buy everything
I did get a fabu ring that I will be rocking in some pictures soon!

again, it was an honor to be asked to speak to the students and honestly if I could do it every week I would. I was so impressed by these FIT students and how much they love what they are learning and doing. Thank you for inspiring me too!

P.S. - Stay tuned for video footage from the discussion! Video is in :) check it out

P.S.S. Shout out to Allison Griener(Industy Liaison Manager) for inviting me to speak.
