Behind the Seams: Let's Get Personal!

April 30, 2013
Hey guys! I told you all a few weeks ago that I'm all about going back to my ROOTS for 2013; First with the One Of A Kind program and now with Personalized Hoodies! I started personalizing hoodies back in 2006, yes that is 7 years ago!!! It feels like yesterday when I set up all the systems on excel and found a factory in Los Angeles to help me build this program. I will never forget the day the Today Show aired the Personalized Hoodies as one of the best gifts to get for the holidays! And then that same month Instyle Magazine featured it in their holiday gift guide.

This was before Facebook fan pages, twitter, instagram, etc, etc so everything was word of mouth! My office phone # was linked to the episode instead of a 1-800 # I had set up to take the influx of the yes myself and my team became the order takers over the phone and I personally took Amanda Byne's and several other celebrities orders over the phone. It went something like this ..."Hi this is Deesh (at the time Boy Meets Girl® was named my nickname Deesh(see post reference on name change here)) How can I help you." The caller would say, "Hi this is Amanda Byne's and I would like to make a personalized hoodie order." Then I would SCREAM out to my team we got a new order and it is from AMANDA BYNE's and then I would get back on the phone pretending it was not actually me and say "great let me get your Boy/Girl names and mailing address and cc# and we will get this done right away Amanda!." No joke this was a crazy December for me and my team. We got every single order out on time for Christmas for all the orders that came into our office line by mistake! But that is how I roll. And without experience I would not be able to to share with you my journey and be where I am today. So I am proud to bring back Personalization now bigger then EVER!

Now you can purchase your own personalized hoodie on! It's perfect for wedding gifts, mothers day, graduation, and just because! Oh and now with social media you can tag yourself :) woot woot!

Also calling all the entrepreneurs out there! If your looking to gain sales & marketing experience and make a little cash, Boy Meets Girl® has a great opportunity for you! Sign up to become a Personalization Rep! Just send an email to: to get all the scoop!

What would you put on your personalized hoodie?! Tell me in the comments below!

what I wore: First signs of Spring and feeling very "Coachella"

April 23, 2013
Spring has finally arrived for good in NYC and I couldn't be happier(yes I am reflecting below on spring and trying to get rid of my cold in the sun!). Time for JUMPERS! One of my favorite things about the Spring is all the outdoor music festivals that are happening across the country. Every year I say "I am doing Coachella" and then time just passes by way too fast and I miss Coachella. It doesn't help seeing all updates via newsletters/emails/social media reminding me I am not there. But, fortunately this is just the start of the summer music festivals and I look forward to what is to come. So in honor of Coachella (because I had to right!) below is one of my looks I would be wearing if I was there listening to Band of Horses, Postal Service, Violent Femmes, Wu-Tang Clan, Lumineers, Paul Oakenfold and the list goes on. Hope to catch you at a concert soon!

Shirt: Vintage
Sweater: Vintage
Jeans: Club Monaco
Shoes: Vintage Opening Ceremony
Headband: Laila Rowe similar here
Rings: BCBG & Asha
Bag: Vintage
Lip gloss: Makeup Forever

What are you wearing to your favorite summer concert this summer?

How are you being one of a kind this week?

Behind the Seams: He Said/She Said at Carlo Pazolini

April 19, 2013

Did you ever watch or see the NewlyWed game on repeat like I did growing up (aired from 1966-1974)? I am not sure how/when I watched this show(as I was born well after 1974) but I remember loving every moment of it. Not to mention the rocking 70's outfits the NewlyWed's would sport on the show(one of my favorite fashion era's aside from the roaring 20's). Cut to my recent trip to Carlo Pazolini at their NYC location on 543 Broadway in Soho. I was invited to check out this incredible store which I had never been to before and I have to say I was shocked that I had never been in this store. The interior design of this store was remarkable. I am a crazy shoe girl and also an organized freak and the presentation of the shoes was so sleek and modern which = perfection! So you are probably wondering what does this have to do with the NewlyWed Game... I took Dj Blue Steel(my husband of 6 years) with me and wanted to test if he really knew my style. So we played our own version of the "NewlyWed Game".

How it worked:
1. We each had ten minutes to look at all the styles in the store (which as you can see was a lot more then I thought so was harder).
2. Then I chose 3 pairs that were my top 3 for me and Dj Blue Steel chose 3 pairs that was his top 3 for me.
(please note this was very hard given all the amazing styles that Carol Pazolini offers)
3. We lined up our shoes as seen below to see if any of our selects matched. Although they didn't match up, he did pick shoes that I was eying but eliminated from my final 3.
4. In the end we compromised with what He Said and with what She Said!

*Please note all opinions are my own*

Shoes gifted by Carlos Pazolini

My Tips: Prom purse essentials!

April 17, 2013
It's prom season! Last year I showed you what I wore to prom my Senior Year here! I always reflect on my past and think this year I might have to throw a Prom Party for all of us not in HS anymore. Want to join!?

Here are a few things you should keep in your prom clutch for those of you going to Prom this year! Have fun!!!
     1. Bobby Pins: No matter how much hairspray you put in that fantastic up do, a few hairs might fall out of place on the dance floor. Bobby pins will help you keep your hair looking in place all night!
     2. Debit Card: You never know when you might need a bit of cash. Always good to have on hand! Especially when you and your friends decide to make the limo stop for a late night snack after the dance! Oh and yes that is a customized Boy Meets Girl(R) creditcover below. You can make your own for you and your friends here or get your own in fancy styles that have. Love CreditCovers makes you stand out in that prom crowd.
     3. Band Aids: Lots of dancing+ high heels= painful feet! Keep band aids with you just in case your dancing and high heels cause some unwanted blisters! Big fan of the fashionable styles below and available here.
     4. Iphone: Perfect for instagramming the night away, and texting mom to let her know your having a great time!
     5. Lip Gloss: A girl always needs a touch of gloss!
     6. Rollerball perfume: Keep yourself smelling fresh all night long!
     7. And of course the perfect clutch to hold all your goodies

What are your musts to carry in your prom purse?

Behind the Seams: One of a Kind

April 15, 2013
I sold custom charm necklaces and made my first catalog at the age of 5
I made my first skirt at the age of 7
I made my prom dress at the age of 15
I made "hippie chic" tops that I sold to girls on spring break and in brick & mortar stores in college
I created "ONE OF A KIND" tops and bags for my roommates and friends during and after college and sold them in stores all over NYC and had special fittings in my NYC apartment
I created clips for your gloves and sold them to my colleagues for holiday gifting
In 2001 Bergdorf Goodman bought my line for a 2002 delivery
and I continued to ship Bergdorf's until 2005.
Well as some say the rest is History...

I am excited to bring you the #beoneofakind

 Definition: unique

It's 2013 and I am bringing you back to my roots. I  have always had this dream and vision and this big idea. And the ideas for some turn into a business if they want it to and put the work into it. Sometimes the business of being creative can eat up your creative energy. I will not say the last decade has been easy but I will say I would not change it for the world and my creative brain is still running wild 24/7. So I dove into my vintage stash of Boy Meets Girl® designs and joined forces with my photographer BFF on the west coast Marc Mez to create this special #beoneofakind campaign on . For the next few months each Monday 4 One of a Kind shirts will be released! There is only one piece thus you will #beoneofakind :) Shirts are only $48 and you get an awesome eco-friendly tote with your purchase and a special note from me. I hope you are as excited as I am!

Below is the first 4 shirts shot by Marc Mez and on one of my favorite models Faith Picozzi

Midnight inspirations: Spring '13 Trends!

April 11, 2013
Spring has finally sprung in the city and I'm so excited to put my heavy jackets away! There are so many great spring trends that went down the runway last fall that I'm excited to rock! The first is WHITE (and also Black/White Stripe mixing). I am calling this white trend a White PaRty. I will be attending a lot of parties in white this summer in various forms from vintage white button downs stolen from Dj BlueSteel to white layering vests and tees(Tess Giberson Vest below love!) . Hmm maybe P.Diddy will bring back his White Party just for me this summer. The next is ROSE GOLD its super feminine and goes perfectly with guess what? White! I am a big shorts and jumper girl and will be scooping up this rose gold blazer by Badgley Mischka to pair with my shorts/jummers. Rose Gold is a neutral color in my eyes and really can go with everything in your wardrobe. Last I love the 90's CROP TOPS. This trend is pushing me to get my 90's abs back. Will that happen? Not sure but good incentive to push us right!?

Below are some of my Spring fashion purchases of the season :)
A black/white stripe blazer from Urban Outfitters(sold out already)
and a white and black button down from Express.

My tips: Packing & Travel Essentials Giveaway!

April 9, 2013
This past Spring Break I traveled to Minnesota(Cold weather) to visit my Father(Dodi) who got a successful liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic!!! And during this same trip I also traveled to Palm Beach(Warm Weather) for the end of Passover with my Mom(DJ Norma)! Packing for me is an art form. I always create a special packing list with little square boxes so I can check off everything in an organized manner.

Here are some of My Tips to pack for both Cold and Warm Weather within the same trip:
1) Make sure your outfits are interchangeable.
2) I see it as a simple equation. It starts with a graphic tee and then layer around it.
3) Denim always works in both climates both in bottoms and in a jacket or a vest.
4) Printed bottoms can brighten both weather locations and easy to layer a skirt with some cute tights in the cold weather.
5) Choose shoes that are easy to pack and wear on the plane but also can work for casual into evening looks.
6) Snag that perfect "black and white" spring blazer which works in both locations.

Where to buy these items if you are liking what you see :)
a. Jean Jacket -Aeropostale
b. Blacker -Urban Outfitters sold out but similar version here
c. Skirt- J. Mendel
d. Denim - Hudson(denim color) and Club Monaco(waxed black)
e. Shoes- Carlo Pazolini flats version here with black peep toes
f. Wedge Sneaker
g. Grapic Tee- Boy Meets Girl® Alice Tee

Also I always put my beauty products at the very top of my bag! My latest obsession is this Babyliss Pro travel hair straighter. It's perfect to take on trips especially with the snazzy amazing leopard case! So in honor of these packing tips I'm giving away a Boy Meets Girl® Alice Tee, a Babyliss Pro leopard travel hair straighter and a Conair MiniPRO® Tourmaline Ceramic Styler! The giveaway will start now and go until this Friday 4/12. Winner will be announced on Monday 4/15! Good luck!

What are your packing must haves?

Midnight Inspirations: Meet our April Muse of the Month!

April 3, 2013
Introducing our April ‘13 Muse of the Month, Rhesa!

Love featuring Rhesa this month as the April Muse! Rhesa interned for me a few years ago and since then has been so gracious in helping me during NYFW backstage. Thank you Rhesa! Rhesa is full of life and love her spirit and positive energy. Learn more about her below.

1. Name: Rhesa Wilson

2. Favorite charity/cause to support and why?
Susan G Comen For The Cure (Breast Cancer Awareness) - I think it's a great charity that not only helps raises awareness about breast cancer, but also send monetary donations to help find a cure for this disease. I even switched my bank card to the SGC debit card so that my bank will donate 10% of each purpose to this charity.

 3. Favorite Boy Meets Girl® Item:
The "Boy Meets Flawless Girl Tee" is my favorite because it exudes a sense of confidence for any girl wearing that tee. Also, it's super cute and adorable and goes great with a pair of jeans = perfect outfit for shopping!! :)

Who is your muse or the person who inspires you most? Could be anyone! If you would like to be considered for Boy Meets Girl®'s Muse of the Month see the rules here!
