Behind the Seams: Q&A with Actress/Model Angela Bellotte

February 27, 2014

I am especially excited to take you Behind the Seams™ with model and actress, Angela Bellotte.  I cast Angela for our Spring 2009 campaign.  Angela is the epitome of a Boy Meets Girl® model – she’s confident, smart, absolutely gorgeous and so much FUN!  It’s no wonder that those images from that shoot remain some of our most highly publicized photos.

Angela recently became involved with a company called Pepper and Paul™, which provides cinematic experiences to online shoppers and is excited as she will be part of the cast in their upcoming short films. Pepper and Paul features designers and merchants that focus on giving back to the world and creating a compassionate, sustainable future.  In my interview with Angela, I asked her what her proudest career moment has been and she said, “I just had this moment in November at the premier for the Delivery Man, which was my first movie as an actress, and the first time I have ever seen myself on the big screen. I was with my girlfriend in the theater and when we saw my face on the screen we both screamed!  I felt like a movie star.”

I am so proud of Angela and love watching people I have worked with rise and shine! I will leave with you Angela’s favorite movie quote from Amy Adams (Sydney Posser) in American Hustle, “I was broke, fearless, with nothing to lose. And my dream, more than anything, was to become anyone else other than who I was.”

Learn more about Angela below. And follow Angela  on Instagram @silence_of_the_ange to see what she is up too!

a few other questions I asked Angela that I wanted to share with you:

what have you learned about the work force that you didn’t know in college?
Angela: Your college education can only take you so far….its your passion, persistence and courage that will move mountains, open doors, and inspire others.

what is the hardest part of your job? Highlight one or all that apply!
a. lack of sleep
b. long hours/crammed schedule
c.  find a good balance between personal life and work

I love my job. All of these nights without enough sleep, the stress of not enough hours in a day, lonely days on the road…. it is all worth it to me.  We all need to experience some type of hardship, some suffering to really appreciate the end result.

My Tips: How to create this top!

February 24, 2014
This month I posted my creation for the Save the Garment Center(STGC) DIY project here
Below are my tips on how to get this look:

All you need is:
-a shirt you want to deconstruct, in this case mine was l/s and a darker color
-waterproof drop cloth
-letter stencils (I made my own because I was in a crazy crafting mood but I suggest buying them pre-made)

Step 1:  I took this 3/4 sleeve shirt and cut the sleeves off on both sides.
I was also playing with concepts but didn't end up putting the logo in the heart like this.

Step 2: I started to layout my design #behindtheseams on the back of the shirt.
I created the letters by folding the painters tape in half to create fine letters.
I also wanted to play with effects with different tapes so I made the #hashtag in scotch tape.

Step 3: Always test the bleach effects. I tested the extra fabric I had left over from the sleeves to test the different bleaches. I found for what I was doing I liked the effect of the bleach in the spray bottle better then the bleach pen. But I do think the bleach pen is fun and something I will use in the future.
The far right is the bleach pen which is thicker.

Step 4: make sure to lay down the waterproof drop cloth in your shower and spray away with your spray bottle. Be creative on how you want to spray and how much. You can put cardboard in your shirt so you don't dye the front, but in my case I didn't do that because I wanted that effect on the front of my garment. Remember have fun! (I filled my spray bottle with 1/2 water and 1/2 bleach)
After let the shirt sit for 5 minutes and then peel off the letters.Rinse with water to stunt the bleaching process.
Throw in the dryer to seal your DIY design.

And voila! I also added a little touch of  the Boy Meets Girl® twill tape to give it a special flavor.

And now for the reviews...
on our travels we caught up with friend and celeb stylist Nathan Helsel who contributed to the reviews below with Cassandra and me. I asked Cassandra and Nathan what there top three picks were.
Check out their favs below.

Nathan review:
All that glitz is gold. Badgley Mischka blew me away with a sensational array of metallics and golds.
The metallic princess gown with blue flower details was a smash for me as well as the black and sparkle long gown. The flounce of Vienna inspired gold gown was to die for. Its my hope that I see some of these gowns grace the starlets on red carpet night for the oscars.
By far Badgley Mischka is one of my top shows for the season so far.
Nathan Helsel is the Founder of Styles by Nathan, a Freelance Celebrity wardrobe stylist a lover of all things fashion. Nathan can be seen attending all major fashion shows or you can see him around town at hot trendy New York restaurants and running around town with Jene Luciani Best Selling Author of the Bra book and Today show correspondent. You can follow Nathan on Twitter & Instagram @StylesbyNathan or at

Cassandra's review:
The first looks gold detailing is the absolute definition of elegance and luxury- dripping in gold.
The second look reminds me of a family photo from the 1800s, it was one of my Russian ancestors in a large fur coat and hat who worked for the army/military. He was wearing the same kind of head-wear, everything in this look brings me back to my heritage, as well as exemplifying a gorgeous strong personality and a hard-working woman as well as staying warm and cozy in the cold weather.
The third does really take me back to being in Austria. I was there with my father for work about a year and a half ago, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I love the blacks the blues and the florals mixture of this dress. It also reminds me of the stained-glass windows in the churches, the water that ran through the rivers and canals in the city, and the attire that everyone was dressed to the nines, even to go for coffee. It was beautiful, and this dress is structured and elegant, just like the people and scenes there in Austria. Also, when I was in Austria my attire consisted mainly of black and blue, for whatever reason I chose. The color scheme, and the pattern of this dress automatically brings me back.
Cassandra Bankson is a model, entrepreneur and online media personality. Since a young age, she has had a passion for helping others and continues to bring that passion into her work today. You can follow Cassandra  on Twitter @sincerelycass11 & Instagram @diamondsandheels14 or at

My review:
Mark Badgley and James Mischka brought a beautiful collection down the runway. This was my third time attending their show and by far this was my favorite collection to date. Inspired by turn-of-the century Vienna, in particular artist Gustav Klimt and architect Josef Hoffman, the Badgley Mischka collection was a perfect combination of the influences showcasing hand-beaded jewelry on mesh, metallic floral brocade dresses and touches of leopard in the most refine way. The fur accessories are a must-have for this cold NYC weather and I look forward to scooping up one of those hats ASAP.
what do you think of this collection? Gorgeous right!
