Behind the Seams: Q&A with David Stassen
March 18, 2014
Today, I am taking you Behind the Seams™ with David Stassen. David is one of my BFF's from high school. He is also a writer and producer for the the Mindy Project (along with his writing partner and co-star, Ike Barinholtz, who is also a high school bff of mine). If you don’t watch The Mindy Project… you should. It is one of the smartest, funniest shows on TV. It is currently in its second season and has been picked up for its third season on Fox! As one of the on-set writers, David works crazy hours. Of course, according to David, “When you’re doing what you love, it’s worth it.” David is also a recent father to beautiful Lily. I asked him if he’s written his daughter into an episode yet and he said, "he's developing a one hour drama to be a starring vehicle for Lily. She will play a publicist in Manhattan looking for love and clean diapers."
I figured many of you would like to work in television, perhaps as writers of a sit-com, so I asked David what he’s looking for in an assistant and how to get noticed. He said, “If you get hired as an assistant or an intern, take the job seriously and be the best assistant you can be. It may not seem like it at first, but your dedication will not go unnoticed.” I completely agree – that’s industry-agnostic advice I’d say.
Check out more about David below and follow him on Twitter for a daily chuckle or two!
Make sure to watch The Mindy Project, Tuesdays at 9:30pm EST on Fox!
