Kick into Labor Day!

August 29, 2014
Over the past two years these Balenciaga kicks that I tore out of the April 2012 Vogue issue have been staring at me on my office moodboard. I have always been a fan of fashionable trainers and the recent resurgence of "Athleisure" has made me one happy camper this summer (especially because comfort, fashion, and pregnancy are key to being happy :)).  As we kick into Labor Day check out some of my favorite selections of sneakers, gym shoes, trainers.... You will definitely want to take this into your Fall Wardrobe as these are not going out of style (yea for me)!

What do you call your Kicks? Sneakers (a soft shoe with a rubber sole worn for sports or casual occasions)? Gym Shoes (a lightweight canvas shoe with a rubber sole; sneaker)? or Trainers?

Some fun Labor Day posts you might have missed here

Wishing everyone a Happy Labor Day!

New Fav Beauty Product line: Susan Ciminelli

August 27, 2014
From time to time I veer away from my regular beauty go-to's. When I find products I love I normally stick to them for several years. In high school and college I was a big Erno Laszlo girl addicted to their sea mud soap. Sometimes our skin gets dry and sometimes it shines so there is always a balance when finding the right products and I think it is important to change it up from time to time. I was recently introduced to Susan Ciminelli's product line and was hesitant to try something new while in my third trimester of pregnancy but after reading the makeup of the products which include key ingredients such as; almonds, seaweed, avocado, lavender, etc  ... I was sold! Below are three of Susan's products that have entered my new favorite beauty category list. Check them out I know you will also become a fan and feel radiant!

This lightweight Cleansing Milk is good for all skin types and will leave a special sheen on your face. The blend of essential oils and herbal extracts helps to remove makeup and daily impurities. Key Ingredients include: Sweet Almond Oil, Seaweed, Calendula, Avocado, Jojoba, Pine Bark and Lavender.

The Restorative Red Marine Algae Cream is the most luxurious of the Susan Ciminelli Creams. Formulated with a special bio-fermentation technology, this cream deeply nourishes and moisturizes the skin.  With regular use it reduces fine lines, improves skin firmness and increases cell turnover. Key Ingredients include: Thyme, Soybean Oil, Red Marine Algae, Comfrey, Lemon and Chamomile.

I love finding a refreshing spray that keeps me refreshed during my busy days. Seawater when desalinated, is equal to our blood plasma and is easily absorbed into the skin because it is recognized naturally. I normally spray this around 3pm before a set of more meetings and then again around 7-8pm as I head out of work either to go home or attend a dinner or party. Key Ingredients include: Purified seawater, Pine Bark and European Sea Salt.

Also Susan will be starting her services and practices of beauty & wellness in September in the ultra chic Grace Belgravia in London and the beautiful 5-Star Villa Magna Resort in Spain! I would love to check both of these spots out wouldn't you? Congrats Susan!

Journal Entries from the Past Vol.2

August 25, 2014
In 2008 I was asked to be part of this amazing book along other inspiring women called "Sixteen Weeks to Your Dream Business" by Nada Jones and Michelle Briody. Recently I have been going back in time catching up on all my old journal entries and found this book in my secret stash. At the time when I gave my tips I was still in the trenches (actually I am always in the trenches) of building my empire. It's funny if you look closely I promoted my myspace page which sadly is now something of the past in terms of platforms I update. What I love finding about this book is how it relates to my recent visit speaking at Pandora's Women in business leadership speaker series as this book focuses on entrepreneurial women as well.  I was part of the Make Some Noise chapter which I find interesting because several years later I was part of this panel called the The Disruptors (Fashion Digital Power Panel with David Gilboa, Founder, Warby Parker, Divya Gugnani, Chief Executive Officer, Send The Trend, and Áslaug Magnúsdóttir, Co-Founder & CEO, Moda Operandi) you can read more about it here. But I think there is a trend when looking back at this as a whole...I make noise and I am a disruptor in the fashion space. I like the sound of that :)

So if you are interested in this book you can check it out here and check out some of the other amazing ladies featured like Alle Fister founder of Bollare, Rebecca Minkoff and many others.

If you missed my last Journal Entries from the past check it out here.

What to get your Niece on her Birthday?

August 20, 2014
 #Winning with my Niece :)

Finding the perfect birthday present for my seven-year-old-to-be niece is always a challenge.  Luckily, there's Aunt Suzies, located on Main Street in Southampton.  That's where I go to get my little fashionista of a niece her gift each year. Their selection is adorable and I love the "mom and pop" feel of the place. This year, I actually took Sami with me and we both fell in love with this dress below (she wore it on her birthday). It has little girls holding balloons on it so it really is the perfect birthday dress.

The problem with being an Aunt is we like to spoil our nieces and nephews.  Case in point, on top of this awesome dress, I found these new hot dolls called The Beatrix Girls. Each doll is a musician with an intricate and empowering backstory. Together, they create original pop music developed by platinum-selling songwriters and producers. You can see from below she was very excited learning about each doll with their unique names (Lark, Ainsley, Brayden and Chantal) and personalities.

National Thrift Store Day!

August 17, 2014
For this fun National Day knowing that I am lover of all things vintage and thrifty I thought it would fun to gather some of my favorite past posts featuring anything and everything vintage. Enjoy and tap on the title to link to the throwback post!

Vintage Finds Vol.1

what I wore: Vintage "Book" Clutch

what I wore: NYFW

DIY Jewelry Organizer

what I wore: 2014 CLIO Image Awards

My tips: DIY creating a vintage nostalgic ring necklace!

Also for those of you wondering what is the difference between a Thrift Store, a Vintage Store and/or a Consignment Store is? Answers below:
  • A Thrift Store is a vintage shop/boutique which is privately owned. All the items for sale in the store were purchased by the store and then are resold at some sort of premium. The store gets their merchandise from any of number of sources.
  • A Vintage Store sells used clothes that are donated by individuals. The store normally donates the profits of the sales of the items in their store to go directly to a charity.
  • A Consignment Store is a place where individuals can sell their clothes too. The shop, as the dealer, takes a percentage of the profit for each item sold and you get a percentage as well. If your goods do not sell they will be returned to you.

Do you Thrift or Vintage Shop? Do you Consign? I want to know :)

Women in Business Leadership Speaker Series at Pandora

August 14, 2014
Last week I was asked to speak at Pandora's New York office for their Women in Business Leadership Speaker Series (an employee group dedicated to empowering women to develop their careers and connect with their communities). Some of the past speakers have been Marcie Vu, former Head of Consumer Internet Banking at Morgan Stanley; Emily Schuman, founder of Cupcakes and Cashmere; Val DiFebo, CEO of Deutsch NYC; Amy Trask, CEO of the Oakland Raiders; Darla Anderson, Oscar-winning producer at Pixar; Cristin Groos Richmond, CEO of Revoluti0n Foods; Kellie McElhaney, professor at the Haas Business School-UC Berkeley; Lisa Kavanaugh, CTO of; Jean Quan, Mayor of Oakland and Geisha Williams, EVP of PG&E Electric Operations.

I was honored to speak at Pandora.  As you all know, I am music FREAK and so excited to be a part of this inspiring group of women thought leaders.  Below are pictures my social media manager, Tara (DJ MM), and I captured Behind the Seams of my time at Pandora. First of all... sweet offices, right? What a beautiful space to go to work each day.  There are no closed offices; everyone works in the same open space and THEY HAVE PING PONG FOLKS (I wanted to challenge the ladies but didn't have time after I spoke... Next time).

I spoke on various topics. Here are a few of my favorite questions that were asked of me. If you guys want written answers, let me know and I'll do that for a future blog post.

  • How are you going to balance having a baby and running a business?
  • What are the most important qualities of a great entrepreneur?
  • As a business owner, what core values and tenets do you look to instill in your employees?
  • One of the common themes we see when talk to these incredibly successful women in our speaker series is that they all truly love and are passionate about what they do – their work energizes them. What do you love about your job? Is it the work, the people?

The ladies at Pandora surprised me with this Onesie! It reads "Emerging Artist".
Who is leaving the hospital in this me or my future baby? Thank you, Pandora, for this special gift, it was so thoughtful!
On our way out Tara & I had to take a photo :)/

I matched their walls! Doing the Polka Dance ;) #pregnantstyle

Thank you, Pandora, for inviting me to be one of your featured women in the WIB series. I had an incredible time and loved all your questions. Bravo for providing this opportunity to your employees!

My Tips: Balance

August 12, 2014
"BALANCE is not something you FIND, it's something you CREATE" - unknown

Kick up your feet and read a book :)

Paint your nails or get your nails done and enjoy a hand massage!

Walk to work and enjoy YOU time and if preggers like me enjoy your Baby Bump :)

Walk home from work too!

Stop to look around you and BREATHE!
