Bangs or No Bangs?

December 30, 2010
With the new year just around the corner, I thought it would be a fun idea to post this blog about whether or not I should get bangs :) I have been wanting to change my hair for awhile now and have dabbled with the idea of getting bangs..Rodney Groves(an amazing hairstylist who I adore... check out his work here http://www.art-dept.com/hairandmakeup/groves/)
did these bangs for fun for me on a recent shoot I did(details to come more in 2011) and I received a lot of different reactions- my assistant Michelle said "it seems like you've had them all along" and others have said I look like a movie actress from the past. Either one I'll take ;)

I have never dyed my hair before so the next step would be to get a different style/cut done. All you hairstylists out there, what are your thoughts?

Also I thought it would be fun to share this image above. It's our white board which we use to help organize and layout events, tasks, etc. Michelle and I are very visual and we like to see our agenda in a color coded layout (I know, you're probably saying to yourself- wow they are super anal about things but that's how we work! Boy Meets Anal Girl...it keeps us in order! LOL!)
It's always so nice to see one big task be crossed out and then it's on to the next big event- February Fashion Week 2011! But of course I can't give away all those details yet...

These two images were taken while I was in Brazil over the holiday. I love this fountain. It reminded me of a wishing fountain..so I made a wish and some resolutions for the New Year to come :) Here's to a very Happy and Healthy New Year! I look forward to the adventures and new memories 2011 will bring for me and my brand Boy Meets Girl(R)!
Thank you to my whole team for being incredible to work with. As DJ NielleKat said today "I have never been so excited to come to work." This was after our recent snowstorm :) But, hey we must be doing something right as we truly love our craft and I want to continue to inspire all to love what they are doing everyday.

Xo,
Stacy

p.s. Thank you Dj Blue Steel(and new name DJ editor) for your amazing Belief in me over the course of this past decade in building a brand from scratch. I hope you read this post so you see my special shoutout :) Without your continuous shoulder to lean on and your ear to listen to me and your jokes to make me laugh...I would not be where I am today. Thank you.

The LIGHT captured in Brazil! Happy Holidays to all.

Boy Meets Isabella Blow Girl

December 16, 2010
While I was traveling in Europe this past September, I was invited to the book launch for Blow by Blow- written by Detmar Blow, in dedication to his late wife, Isabella Blow. It was such a privilege to be there among fashion influencers such as Anna Wintour who personally knew Issie.
For those who do not know, Isabella Blow was known throughout the fashion world for her unpredictable flair and outrageously stylish wardrobe. She also discovered Alexander McQueen and Philip Tracey. Check out the video below of the book launch below- and sorry it was filmed the wrong way(I was just getting a hang of my new droid)! But you can hear Issie's husband speaking about her which is amazing :)

Of course I bought my own copy of Blow by Blow :). I am loving it so far and still have a ways to go but I HIGHLY recommend it as a last minute holiday gift for your fashionista friend. Issie's story is one to know and I can't wait to finish it over the holidays!

Check out the images below from the event with my amazing friend Tara Smith. I have written about Tara in the past. Make sure to check her hair products out in Duane Reade in NYC store locations and on her website here.

Sammi Hanratty visits Boy Meets Girl® Eco-Friendly Cardboard Office!

December 15, 2010

Last week the adorable Sammi Hanratty stopped by our Boy Meets Girl® Eco-Friendly Cardboard Office to check out the space and of course try on some Boy Meets Girl® clothes ;)

I can't believe how grown up she is! The last time I saw her was about a year and a half ago when we teamed up and created shirts for the BullyBust.org campaign at Bloomingdale's. Check out this video footage of Sammi and I chatting about what she's been up to recently, her adorable horse Jack and other collaborations we hope to take on after the new year!

Sammi looked great in Boy Meets Girl® and was happy to model her new outfits for us! And of course everyone who stops by our office must make a wish in the cardboard wish-wall! I wonder what Sammi wished for ;)

Boy Meets OPRAH Girl!

November 13, 2010

Last week I got an email from Stephanie Rosenbloom, a New York Times writer with an exciting hook for her latest article: she had found me while researching her article about Oprah Winfrey's last season. As some of you might know, my email signature includes my contact information and "OPRAH!! OPRAH!!" and my Facebook accounts, Twitter feeds, and this blog all give mulitple Oprah "shout outs."

I've watched Oprah since I was a little girl. Here was this strong woman inspiring me and countless others day after day through her show. When I started my clothing line, my goal was to make it big enough to one day grace Oprah's couch back in my hometown, sweet home Chicago! Along the way I've been interviewed lots of times, received some wonderful accolades, and met many incredible people who helped push my career forward. And, of course, I've never missed an opportunity to tell my captive audience about my dreams to be on Oprah's show (For instance, check out a couple of shameless Oprah plugs HERE and HERE).

Well, Stephanie's New York Times article was released online today here and will grace the FRONT PAGE of the New York Times Sunday Styles section tomorrow! And guess who the first featured interviewee is? That's right, its little ole' me! The article is titled, "Who Will be Oprah's Last Star!" Well, I can think of one Chicagoan fashion designer with a loyal online army to nominate for that role... :)

Please spread the gospel, share the love, tell a friend over brunch, retweet, blog, and otherwise do what you can to help me achieve my "Betty White" moment. Lets get the word out folks and I promise I will thank you profusely from Oprah's couch when I finally do get on the show before the show ends in September 2011.

In the mean time, I will continue to share my journey in this crazy world of fashion that I love so much -- the highs and the lows, the ups and downs.

Oprah: Since 1986, your show has been, in large part, about shining a spotlight on culture and the issues of the day. What better way to end your run than by interviewing a relatively unknown designer who made it to your star-studded couch thanks to a healthy dose of new school and old school -- social media networking and sheer determination?

Behind the Seams with Stacy Igel

November 10, 2010
One of the recurring themes of this blog has been my roller coaster rider through the fashion industry with my brand, Boy Meets Girl®. I’ve shared with you all the exhilarating climbs as well as those moments where its all I can do to just hold on to whatever I can grasp and just put my faith in a higher power that everything will turn out okay in the end. To stick with the roller coaster theme, there’s been so many ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns.
Really, I’ve often thought you couldn’t script a better show than what happens to me in real life! So starting this week, my roller-coaster-ride-of-a-life will become a reality series on the web called, Behind the Seams with Stacy Igel®! You can check out the webisodes featured on Rate My Professors Blog next week here (link coming soon). Rate My Professors is a property of MTV networks.
Episodes 1-3 will take you behind the scenes as camera crews capture (i) Me & Boy Meets Girl®’s efforts to “go green” with a environmentally-focused office renovation, (ii) fitting models for my runway Spring 2010 fashion show at New York Fashion Week and (iii) the show itself, including backstage footage and last minute preparations.

Here you will see my old office turned into a chic cardboard city by Design Cycle/Campus-U! Cathy from Design Cylce transformed my office into all recycled cardboard and most of the pieces like the chair only took 4 steps to make..crazy huh?? She even created an adorable wish wall where you could insert your own wishes with the colored paper.

This was the day before the fashion show where we had back-to-back model fittings. It was so exiting to see the collection on the models and to see them practice their runway walk! I was so happy with the models we chose- they included winners from an Exploremodeling.com contest, 2 fashion bloggers Saucy Glossie & Late Afternoon, actress Jenn Proske, and an artist Eunice Quiones. Also special guest, Elaine Bradley the drummer for Neon Trees stopped by and I dressed her in Boy Meets Girl®. She totally rocked!

Last but certainly not least- the actual Boy Meets Girl® fashion show! This was such an rewarding experience. My team did a fantastic job and it was so amazing to see it all come together. I don’t know what my favorite part of that day was as every moment I will cherish forever: seeing Neon Trees perform live, watching my models walk down the runway, hugging my team, meeting my family and friends afterward who came to see the show and the list goes on.....

I thought a fun way to kick off the web series would be to have a contest. So here’s how its gonna work - leave a comment below your favorite webisode (Episode 1, 2 or 3) on our Vimeo page, Youtube page or here on my blog and you will automatically be entered into the contest for a chance to win a $100 gift card to the Boy Meets Girl® website!
Six winners will be chosen at random on December 15, 2010.
I am really excited to hear what you all think. So do let me know by leaving your comments :)

Thank you again to my amazing team and I hope you all enjoy the episodes!
